The greatest want of the world
(世界最大の必要)
The greatest want of the world is the want of men –
(世界で最も欠乏しているのは人物である。)
men who will not be bought or sold;
(それは、売買されない人、)
men who in their inmost souls are true and honest;
(魂の奥底から真実で、正直な人、)
men who do not fear to call sin by its right name;
(罪を罪とよぶのに恐れない人)
men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole;
(磁石の針が南北に指示して変わらないように、良心が義務に忠実な人、)
men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.
(天が落ちかかろうとも、正しいことのために立つ人
………そういう人である。)
